Developed for Nature nanotechnology, this cover illustration was designed to communicate the advancements in neuromorphic computing material, specifically the analogous function of chalcogenide-based phase-change material to neurons. Neurons propagate incoming signals once a threshold potential is reached, thereafter resetting the synapse potential in approximately one millisecond. These electronics-based phase-change devices can achieve reversible amorphous to crystalline transitions on a nanoscale timescale.
